It is caused by dermatophyte fungi, which thrive in warm, moist environments such as shoes, socks, and communal changing areas.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Signs and symptoms:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Itching, burning, or stinging between the toes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Peeling, cracked, or scaly skin<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Redness or inflammation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Blisters that may ooze or crust<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In severe cases, spread to the soles, toenails, or hands<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Why it matters for nail techs:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tinea pedis is highly contagious and can spread to other nails, the toenails (onychomycosis), or even to the hands.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nail professionals should be able to recognise signs and avoid providing services that may worsen the infection or put other clients at risk.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clients with suspected tinea pedis should be referred to a healthcare professional or podiatrist for diagnosis and treatment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Best practice:<\/strong><br>Do not perform nail services on infected feet.
