Los l\u00edpidos se encuentran en todas las c\u00e9lulas vivas. En la l\u00e1mina ungueal, durante el proceso de queratinizaci\u00f3n en el que las c\u00e9lulas vivas pierden todo su contenido celular para ser sustituidas por queratina, los l\u00edpidos son expulsados y forman una eficaz protecci\u00f3n y lubricaci\u00f3n entre las c\u00e9lulas de la l\u00e1mina ungueal.
