Pero s\u00ed tenemos una serie de normas que debemos cumplir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Por ejemplo<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Salud y seguridad<\/li><li>Normativa sobre cosm\u00e9ticos<\/li><li>More recently and temporary, COVID 19 regulations.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We do not have National licensing nor qualifications regulations. We do, however, have some local licensing regulations. The best example of this is in London where those working in a nail salon (or a salon that provides Nail Services) require every nail professional to have an NVQ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Regulated versus unregulated qualifications has long been very confusing. Let me explain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cualificaciones reguladas<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Every version of these is based on the National Occupational Standards (NOS found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukstandards.org.uk\/NOS-Finder#Default=%7B%22k%22%3A%22nail%20services%22%2C%22s%22%3A11%2C%22r%22%3A%5B%7B%22n%22%3A%22NOS-SuiteMetadata%22%2C%22t%22%3A%5B%22%5C%22%C7%82%C7%824e61696c205365727669636573%5C%22%22%5D%2C%22o%22%3A%22and%22%2C%22k%22%3Afalse%2C%22m%22%3Anull%7D%5D%7D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">AQU\u00cd<\/a>.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00bfQu\u00e9 significa esto?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The NOS are created by Habia (The Hairdressing and Beauty Industry Authority). Habia are recognised by Government as the Standards Setting Body (SSB) NOS that specify UK Standards of performance that people are expected to achieve in their work, and the knowledge and skills they need to perform effectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Los imparten y eval\u00faan organismos de certificaci\u00f3n. Hay m\u00e1s de 160 que se pueden buscar en: https:\/\/register.ofqual.gov.uk\/. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Government ensure they provide \u2018quality assured\u2019 qualifications<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00bfQu\u00e9 significa OFQUAL?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Se trata de la Oficina de Ex\u00e1menes y Reglamentos. Mantienen las normas en:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>GCSEs<\/li><li>Niveles A<\/li><li>Niveles AS<\/li><li>Cualificaciones profesionales y t\u00e9cnicas<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>They are independent of government and report directly to Parliament. This means that there is a standardised \u2018Quality Assurance\u2019 that requires external checking that teaching, assessments and Awards meet with a certain level of quality based on the NOS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00bfQu\u00e9 significa esto para los profesionales de las u\u00f1as?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Significa que hay un nivel m\u00ednimo que debe impartirse a trav\u00e9s de una ense\u00f1anza que responda a controles externos y a la garant\u00eda de calidad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cualificaciones reguladas<\/strong> are typically NVQ\u2019s, VRQ\u2019s, Apprenticeships, Awarding Body Certificates &amp; Diplomas, and soon to be introduced \u2018T\u2019 Levels (which concentrate more on theory and understanding).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cualificaciones no reguladas<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some years ago, associations and other organisations created an alternative to \u2018regulated qualifications\u2019.&nbsp; It did \u2018bridge the gap\u2019 between regulated courses (that involved a lot of bureaucracy and paperwork) and \u2018short courses\u2019 provided by brands or private individuals. At the beginning it did address a need within the industry as \u2018short courses\u2019 had evolved and proved popular. Many of them came from countries, such as the US, where they were \u2018postgraduate\u2019 following gaining a license to work. But they did not address beginner education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The concept was good, but the explosion of the interest was not!! Many very good educators and training providers believed that the only way to gain confidence with their potential students was to buy into these \u2018accredited\u2019 courses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gaining \u2018accreditation\u2019 was, originally, based on the NOS but without the \u2018paperwork\u2019. Gaining \u2018accreditation\u2019 was an expensive project but it achieved a \u2018badge\u2019 and could access insurance as the organisations became insurance brokers. The \u2018badge\u2019 gave new learners the confidence to take the vast variety of courses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But, as time has gone on, the \u2018badge\u2019 and access to insurance has turned into a big money exercise for many organisations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the \u2018accredited\u2019 courses there is NO quality assurance; they are not answerable to anyone; a one day course teaching three systems to complete beginners has the same \u2018badge\u2019 as a multiple week\/month course! How can any student tell the difference?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is where potential students need to do their research (if they care enough!) There are some fabulous teachers and courses available via the \u2018accreditation\u2019 route but how do you know?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If we had a level playing field and good quality assurance, it would be great. But we don\u2019t! Recent exposes on just how dreadful education can be is bringing it to the attention of the media. If we don\u2019t stop this \u2018race to the bottom\u2019 we will all suffer. There is a middle ground to be found. Regulated courses are far from perfect. But unregulated courses are destroying the beauty sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is just a brief commentary on the situation. It is far more complicated than this, but the industry has allowed it to happen. Those teachers who deliver the short courses that are \u2018not fit for purpose\u2019 should be ashamed.
