Acetone occurs naturally in our bodies in low concentrations. Much of what\u2019s said about acetone is based on fear and misinformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If acetone smelled like essential oils, few would be concerned about it. Acetone\u2019s strange odor and odd feel on the skin make many wary. When properly used, it\u2019s a very safe solvent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u00c1gua e acetona: Semelhan\u00e7as e diferen\u00e7as<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Water and acetone are very similar in many ways. They are soluble in each other, which show they are similar. Why? The rule in nature is\u2026 \u201cLike dissolves like\u201d. Major chemical differences exist between oil and water, which is why they don\u2019t mix.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Acetone and water also have similar effects on the nail plate, but there are differences as well. Both can absorb into the nail plate however acetone evaporates many times faster than water; that\u2019s why it escapes much more quickly from the nail plate than water can, and why it doesn\u2019t accumulate in the nail plate, it\u2019s always evaporating away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A \u00e1gua quer ficar dentro da placa. That\u2019s because the nail plate is only temporarily dehydrated and dehydration is easily reversed without any damage to the surface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Water flows through the nail plate relatively quickly, these surface cells will only remain in this \u201cdrier condition\u201d for somewhere in the range of thirty to forty minutes, depending on the person, or it could take several hours for the plate to completely rehydrate to normal levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One major and important difference between water and acetone is how each affects the \u201coil soluble\u201d substances within the nail plate. Oils and waxes come from the <a href=\"https:\/\/nailknowledge.org\/pt\/base-de-conhecimento-sobre-unhas\/leito-ungueal\/\">leito ungueal<\/a> e os tecidos circundantes e constituem normalmente 5% da placa ungueal ou menos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Acetone&#8217;s Effect on Oil-Soluble Substances in the Nail Plate<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A acetona pode dissolver e remover essas subst\u00e2ncias da superf\u00edcie da placa ungueal. The latter is what acetone does and does well. We can literally see the effects of dehydration. Removing the water from the nail\u2019s surface changes the surface appearance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Light won\u2019t easily transmit through the surface to illuminate the nail bed, nor will light reflect nicely off the surface to create what we refer to as \u201cshine\u201d. Instead the drier surface is uneven and lacks shine. This is because light is scattered in every direction from surfaces that aren\u2019t smooth. This light scattering makes the nail plate appear whitish in places. Now this is really important to understand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If a drop of water is placed on a dehydrated surface of a nail plate, the lost surface water is quickly replaced. The result is the \u201cwhite\u201d surface disappears as the surface layers are quickly re-hydrated, since this is the opposite of dehydrating it makes sense that it would happen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A \u00e1gua \u00e9 absorvida pela placa ungueal em taxas relativamente altas, portanto, como eu disse antes, a unha n\u00e3o ficar\u00e1 desidratada por muito tempo. Yet, this is said quite frequently and it creates confusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Mistakenly Blaming Visible Nail Damage on &#8220;Dryness&#8221;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Often time nail professionals incorrectly blame visible nail \u201cdamage\u201d on being \u201cdry nails\u201d. This just shifts the responsibility for the problem in the wrong direction. Surface \u201cdamage\u201d such as pits and scratches on the nail plate also scatter light in the same manner as surface dehydration. In other words, surface \u201cdamage\u201d can also look much like \u201cdehydration\u201d to the untrained eye, but it is not the same. Water is the perfect test for dehydration. If water is applied onto the whitened areas and it doesn\u2019t disappear, what does this say?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;It must not be dry. It\u2019s common to mistake surface roughness, pitting or other damage on the nail surface for so-called \u201cdryness\u201d. This surface whiteness is caused by scraping the nail plate and forcing residual pieces of nail coatings from the nail plate.
