Let us address this question with fact-based information gained from experts in the topic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Firstly, the newly revised National Occupational Standards advise against using an e-file on the nail plate. It also states that the surrounding skin must not be damaged. There may be an \u2018advanced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ukstandards.org.uk\/PublishedNos\/Create--maintain-and-finish-nail-enhancement-overlays-using-an-E-file-SKANT4.pdf#search=efile\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">e-file NOS<\/a>\u2019 coming later in the year that will address when and how e-files can be used on or close to the nail plate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of the information provided here gives cost comparisons between the two methods. Having researched this (with help) I can provide an accurate cost comparison. However, the fact remains that the nationally agreed (UK) industry standards strongly advise against the use of the e-file on the nail plate and no risk of damaging the skin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This chart is based on real costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"eager\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"410\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/nailknowledge.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/soak-off-infographic-410x1024.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-35902\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nailknowledge.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/soak-off-infographic-410x1024.png 410w, https:\/\/nailknowledge.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/soak-off-infographic-600x1500.png 600w, https:\/\/nailknowledge.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/soak-off-infographic-120x300.png 120w, https:\/\/nailknowledge.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/soak-off-infographic-768x1920.png 768w, https:\/\/nailknowledge.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/soak-off-infographic-819x2048.png 819w, https:\/\/nailknowledge.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/soak-off-infographic-scaled.png 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 410px) 100vw, 410px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>It DOES take into account the cost per use of buying an e-file bit<\/li><li>It DOES take into account products used for suitable and high-level hygiene protocols (bits need cleaning and high level disinfection)<\/li><li>education for soak off removal is included in the UV gel polish qualification<\/li><li>the time taken is based on a nail professional earning \u00a330 per hour (that can be mitigated if efficient use of time is in place)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>It DOES NOT take into account<ul><li>The use of branded products<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>the cost of the e-file. A good quality e-file is \u00a3200-300<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>the cost of specific education: \u00a3200-300<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>the time needed for suitable practice<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>the time taken for hygiene protocols<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>annual maintenance of the e-file<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>There is a LOT of misinformation about the use of the e-file. It usually comes from those that are selling e-files and\/or education. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is information <a href=\"https:\/\/nailknowledge.org\/vi\/lam-mong-tay-kieu-nga\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u0111\u00e2y<\/a> from scientifically qualified individuals about the use of e-files that are independent of both of these.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The whole issue of using an e-file for this type of work usually generates a massive amount of divided opinion. In Russia, this is not necessarily popular but, for those that use this technique spend a huge amount of time learning. They also take, up to, 2 hours for a UV gel polish manicure. It is more popular in Eastern Europe. This is where much of the education comes from. Many are very respectful of the \u2018nail unit\u2019. Many are not and do not understand (or believe in) the anatomy and the long-term effects. See the <a href=\"https:\/\/nailknowledge.org\/vi\/lam-mong-tay-kieu-nga\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">article here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here in the UK (and further afield) the focus is on speed or a \u2018look\u2019 that is extreme and not natural. I believe I can liken this to the \u2018trout pout\u2019 (i.e. heavily filled lips)! It is an extreme \u2018look\u2019 that is not necessarily safe, definitely not natural, but some prefer the look.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As nail professionals, we need to be most concerned with safety! Professional ethics must also play a big part! DO NOT be taken in by those selling products or education. Your understanding, learning, professional ethics and the NOS are essential!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I have been helped with this Blog by Hazel Dixon.
