Education in the global nail sector can be a bit hit and miss, to say the least! Those new to the career \u2018don\u2019t know what they don\u2019t know, and advice can be equally hit and miss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So many take courses, leave them with a varying degree of confidence and then\u2026\u2026\u2026so often discover what they don\u2019t know. Many then go onto social media to ask for advice only to get 50 different comments including the \u201care you qualified?\u201d Even more confidence-knocking!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Unfortunately, the answer to many of the \u201care you qualified?\u2019 questions should often be \u201cyes, I am, but not very well!\u201d A potentially successful career in the nail industry cannot be gained in a few days! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Those just entering the sector very often have a plan to have a \u2018home salon\u2019 or work as a mobile nail pro. So many short courses encourage the belief that all you need is to do \u2018our course\u2019, and you\u2019ll be earning straight after. NO, you won\u2019t!!! Hence the questions about \u201chow much should I charge?\u201d because there has been no time to learn nor understand any business principles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A saying used by many of the best educators\/teachers is \u2018perfect<\/u> <\/strong>practice makes perfect\u2019! So, those that have picked up an improper practice cannot possibly be perfect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n With all this in mind, I, personally, believe that working with others for a period of time is essential! We work with many different types of \u2018people\u2019! Understanding and knowing how to deal with \u2018people\u2019 is essential (hence all the multitude of questions on social media \u201chow do I answer this client?\u201d).<\/p>\n\n\n\n My very best advice is to work in a salon with a nail team for at least 6-12 months! There is a serious shortage of workforce following the pandemic. Even beginners can be a welcome addition to a team. Work for a busy salon and learn how to deal with clients; learn from experienced nail pros; discover solutions to very common issues; understand stock ordering, and COP (cost of product), and overheads. Plus, SO much more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Then, if you are still determined to be self-employed, you will be in a MUCH better place to make your business a success and not have to rely on unknown \u2018experts\u2019 who just confuse the issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2018Pay your dues\u2019; learn about the sector; become a \u2018solopreneur\u2019 with confidence!<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Education in the global nail sector can be a bit hit and miss, to say the least!
