As so often, I have an idea for a blog by reading social media. It is obviously used by 1000\u2019s to get some help and advice. So often, it is a technical or nail\/skin condition question. There are MANY Groups set up to be helpful. But what happens in reality? Are you getting the correct information?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So many are aimed at \u2018professionals\u2019 but it is clear that not all members are, actually, professionals. Some are, maybe,\u00a0 DIY\u2019ers.\u00a0 Not dreadful, really, as we can help them to stay safe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What is a big problem though is the vast number of comments then added! There are so many \u2018opinions\u2019 mixed with good \u2018facts\u2019. But how do members know who is correct?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then, there are those that don\u2019t bother to read the whole thread, and just repeat what has already been said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If someone comments and it sounds Ok but you\u2019re not sure: ask for proof. Anyone giving factual advice should always be happy to provide proof or support. If anyone takes this personally, then maybe \u2018proof\u2019 of correct information is not available!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Another solution is to look at the commentator’s profile. See their level of experience and what else they comment on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Another is to see how many other Pros \u2018like\u2019 their comments. That doesn\u2019t usually happen if the comment is not supported by others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Social media has created a vast raft of \u2018experts\u2019. How do you know who to believe? The number of \u2018followers\u2019, especially on YouTube and Instagram, is meaningless even though so many put so much belief in the so-called \u2018influencers\u2019.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There is a huge amount more involved than being good to gather \u2018followers\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
