Onychotillomania (pronounced on‑i‑ko‑til‑oh‑MAY‑nee‑ah)
Definição:
A compulsive habit of picking, pulling, or manipulating the fingernails, toenails, or surrounding skin, often resulting in visible damage. Classified as a body‑focused repetitive behaviour (BFRB), it may occur consciously or unconsciously and is sometimes linked to mental health conditions.

  • Sensory satisfaction from removing perceived imperfections
  • Learned behaviour from family or peers
  • Associated with OCD, ADHD, or other anxiety disorders
