Skin cancer can rarely begin in the nail matrix (the growth area under the skin at the base of the nail).
Ejemplos:
- Melanoma subungueal (most serious form)
- Squamous cell carcinoma of the nail unit
- Basal cell carcinoma (very rare in nails)
Cómo se relaciona con las uñas:
Skin cancers of the matrix may cause dark streaks (melanonychia), irregular pigmentation, nail splitting, or destruction of the nail plate.
Confundible con:
Ethnic pigmentation, trauma, fungal infection, or drug-induced pigmentation.
