Do men’s nails differ from women’s, or are they essentially the same? How do you approach this significant demographic that represents half of the global population? Do you cater to male clients in your nail studio, or do you typically not address this group? Let’s explore what to expect when working with male clients.

Let’s see what you encounter when you have men as clients.

Men’s Natural Nails

At first glance, men’s and women’s nails look the same. But once you look at the details, there are some significant differences.

Evolutionary Reasons for Thicker Male Nail Plates

Các móng tay plate of a man, is thicker. In men with a healthy nail plate, the average thickness is 0.43 mm, while for women, it is 0.39 mm. The cause of this difference can be found in evolution, where men often had heavier physical tasks than women.

The thicker nail plate is not only found in humans; In all primates, the nail plates of males are thicker than those of females.

  • Harder Nail Plate

Besides being thicker, the nail plate is also harder in men.

  • Faster Growth

Another significant difference is the speed at which the nails grow. Men’s nails grow faster than women’s, except during pregnancy, when growth is more or less the same.

Nail Plate Thickness: Key Factors for Men and Women

Fortunately, men are also just humans, and the nails of men and women are otherwise identical. Here are a few basic rules:

  • If you have a short matrix, you will have a thin nail plate.
  • The thickness of the nail plate depends on the length of the matrix.
  • The longer the matrix, the thicker the nail plate will be.
  • Any disruption in the matrix will always result in an abnormal nail plate being male or female does not matter – disruption is disruption.

Man-i-cures: Attracting Male Clients to Your Salon

That men can be a good target group for the nail studio is not new. However, getting those men into the nail studio is much harder than expected. Of course, it also depends on where your nail studio is located. In rural areas, it can be challenging to go against established prejudices, whereas in the city, it is becoming less unusual for men to wear nail coatings – at our local DIY store – the guys wear gel polish – Black and Yellow seems to be their favorite color mix and they love it when I say – man your nails look great!

If you want men as clients in your nail studio, here are a few things to consider:

  • Men like clarity, so ensure clear pricing and service descriptions.
  • Men do not like delays; if the treatment takes half an hour, it cannot become 40 minutes, if you need 40 mins or 75 mins even – book it and charge for it.
  • Men respond differently to care advice than women. If you tell a male client to care for his nếp gấp móng tay four times a day with high-quality oil, they will do it four times a day. (this only works for men you did not give birth to or are not married too)
  • Men plan better ahead, so a manicure every three weeks is booked three months in advance. This makes men very suitable for subscription billing, making it easier for you to plan investments in the salon, or budgeting for special training.
  • Don’t forget the growth rate of nails in men is faster, so they may require more frequent appointments for in fills.
  • Men are willing to pay standard rates for treatments. If a manicure has a set price for 30 minutes, a man will pay that amount. If he finds it too expensive, he simply won’t become a client.

Why Attracting Male Clients to Your Nail Salon Is a Smart Business Move

Men in the salon are fun!

Measuring the rate of nail growth of any client before a service is important but for man clients more so simply because their nails grow at a faster rate, you want them back in the salon in time.

It could be worth popping in to the local barber to talk about working together in some capacity,  it’s always good to hook up with other local businesses.

If I could do it all again, I would definitely invest in getting more men at my manicure table, It just makes good sense.

Mức độ phát hiện mùi của EMA: Bảo vệ doanh nghiệp thẩm mỹ viện của bạn khỏi khiếu nại

Are you a salon owner battling the persistent challenge of EMA odor complaints that threaten your business’s existence? You’ve invested in quality ventilation and air purification systems, but the odor issue persists. Frustration mounts as your local council threatens action due to local resident complaints. In your quest for answers, you’ve stumbled upon a critical question: What is the EMA (ethyl methacrylate) odor detection level, the notorious culprit behind these persistent complaints?

This article seeks to unravel the mysteries surrounding EMA odor detection levels, offering you insights that could save your salon and your reputation. We’ll explore the science behind EMA odors, why conventional air purifiers may not be the solution, and how you can take proactive steps to ensure a safe, pleasant environment for both your clients and staff.

The monomer used to create liquid and powder systems is called ethyl methacrylate or EMA for short. EMA is so easy to smell that you can detect its odor with remarkable sensitivity. In fact, you can detect the smell of just one molecule of EMA diluted with one million molecules of air, which in technical terms is referred to as 1 part per million (ppm).

Ventilation is important for all salons.  In my view, if you can’t afford proper ventilation to ensure the work place breathing air is of good quality, then you should not be performing these services.

Điều đó quan trọng lắm.

Đảm bảo an toàn EMA thông qua thông gió đầy đủ

I strongly advise reaching out to a specialized company that can address your specific ventilation needs. They have the expertise and knowledge to guide you in selecting the right system tailored to your salon’s requirements.

Quyền của bà ngoại? Các điều kiện được quy định

As regulated qualifications are becoming more important many are worried that they will have to go back to college or spend more on education. This is not necessarily the case.

No education or experience is lost!!

The National Occupational Standards (NOS) exist for a reason

The NOS are the minimum amount of practical skills and knowledge to work as a professional in the chosen sector.

Accredited courses (should) be based on the NOS. Insurance underwriters base their policies on the NOS, all other authorities e.g., Environmental Health is guided by the NOS.

When choosing your courses, YOU should be guided by the NOS and if you were not taught some of the knowledge then you should be asking why not!

A simplified version of the NOS will be following this Blog so you can check if you have been taught what is required.

Not all regulated courses are the same

Each course depends on the quality of the teacher and there are far too many stories of some teachers being out of touch with current information and facts.

Regulated and accredited qualifications

The big difference between regulated qualifications and accredited is that students must prove they have the right knowledge and not just be given a manual to read and not tested. There is also an external quality control in place where a qualified person with no connection to the training establishment, regularly checks that this proof is being done properly. This doesn’t happen with accredited courses. no ongoing checks and there is often no testing of skills and knowledge.

You can upgrade your qualifications

Everyone can achieve an upgraded qualification to a regulated version very easily! This can mean cheaper insurance premiums as you can contact any insurer with a regulated qualification and get insurance and move underwriters as often as you like as they are all transferable and often accepted by many other European countries.

So, how easy is it to upgrade?

I would suggest you read the NOS to make sure you have all the right knowledge. If something is missing research and learn it.

NB NailKnowledge has almost all the necessary knowledge (except bones and muscles and systems of the body) It’s endorsed by Habia as it does conform to the NOS.

Arrange your assessment

If you can tick all those boxes, you can set about getting an assessment arranged. Louise Pheonix Searles ([email protected]) has a nationwide organisation that provides assessments and suitability of previous qualifications. It may be that a day or less on an assessment (a short practical for skills) and a written paper are enough for an upgrade. If it isn’t, advice will be given on what is missing and how to gain it. It may be just doing the NailKnowledge Course!

It can be as simple as that!

In conclusion

Don’t be scared by regulated qualifications. They are the nationally accepted standard that everyone working in the sector should have.

No education is lost, it all counts. It’s just that for some, it will need topping up. But I expect most of those are very aware of this already and they are not confident with clients and that they have gaps in their knowledge and understanding.

For a more detailed explanation on regulated qualifications vs accredited courses be sure to read this article.

But what makes a nail sector teacher?

Well, in the nail sector, it is of extreme importance to be very skilled and knowledgeable in all things ‘nails’: the application/practical aspect (you need to make it look easy!) But also understand and be skilled in what makes a good teacher.

Just the ‘nails’ side is NOT enough! There is a psychology to teaching there is also a different psychology to learning as every individual learns in a different way and, as a teacher you need to ensure you address every learning style whether you have 2 students or 200 students. that is a separate skill and one that needs learning and qualifying in.

In the UK the basic requirement is a qualification AET (Award in Education and Training post 16 years old i.e. adults) In my opinion this is not enough. It is the lowest qualification (which, in level order goes Award- Certificate-Diploma) It is a tiny qualification at Level 3.

Next is a CET (Certificate) is L4

Next is DET (Diploma) L5

A CET is totally acceptable and quite robust. DET (Diploma) L5 is a true teaching qualification but quite long to achieve.

What is the difference between a teacher and an educator?

It has been described as this:

There is a difference between education and teaching:

– education is a general term that is given to a collection of subjects (art, science, philosophy….) while teaching is a practical process that involves humans as dominant actors.
– education is a process while teaching is an occupation.

If you are or want to be a teacher it is your responsibility to ensure everyone of your students learns properly and retains the knowledge and puts it into practice.

If you have taken any of the Khóa học NailKnowledge, you may notice that there is repetition and several ways of describing the same piece of knowledge. There are also plenty of Knowledge Checks and Knowledge Points together with the final exam.

This is because it has been carefully planned for every learning style. Some like to read, some like to listen but most like to experience (the animations). It is also the teachers responsibility to check that every student has actually learned the topics. It is not enough to provide the information in one format (e.g. a manual) and leave it at that. Knowledge needs to be checked that every student has actually learned!

A Certificate of Attendance is pretty meaningless as it just means you were there  (maybe on your phone the whole time!). Whereas a Certificate of Achievement means that you were assessed that you have learned the topic. Much more meaningful.

Those nice courses that give out a Certificate at the end of the day are completely meaningless without some manner of assessment.

Being a teacher is a professional skill and one essential to teach ‘nails’ properly. You are letting your students down if you do not take this aspect seriously.

Just because you can do great nails is not enough!! Are you able to break down the application process so your students understand how and, importantly, why!

Can you describe every action of your brush and explain?
Why and how does it cure?
What is wrong if it doesn’t?
What if they get lifting after a few days?

There is so much more to teaching than nice nails!

CIDESCO chấp thuận và xác nhận Chương trình NailKnowledge

CIDESCO chấp thuận và chứng thực Chương trình Chuyên gia làm móng thiết yếu

“NailKnowledge is an approved and highly recommended resource to assist in the teaching and delivery of Nail & Beauty Qualifications written in accordance with the NOS. We find NailKnowledge a comprehensive tool to assist schools and individuals in their teaching and learning. “
Thời gian Vaczlavik

CIDESCO. Họ là ai?

CIDESCO stands for:-  Comité International d’Esthétique et de Cosmétologie

An Awarding Organisation founded in 1946 in Brussels, with their head office in Zurich, Switzerland and has been the “gold standard” for beauty therapy globally for all that time.

It includes a Manicure and Pedicure Certificate (which will be incorporated into all the existing beauty qualifications), a Natural Nail Services Certificate, and an extensive Professional Nails Diploma (an extensive course designed to take up to 1 year in schools).

CIDESCO’s qualification strategy consists of a final external examination in written, practical, oral, and assignment-based examinations. They have a team of international examiners on every continent.

After the Board reviewed NailKnowledge, they were happy to provide the excellent testimonial above. They also required all of their Nail Services examiners to take and pass the course before completing their internal and external training ready for the various schools’ students completing one of the qualifications in ‘nails’.

“Make It Rain” với Nail Retail

Nail professionals are very creative people, willing to constantly learn new things, and great at multitasking. They are artists, technicians, psychologists, you name it! However, there are two words that simply terrify them: nail retail.

Lý do đầu tiên thì dễ hiểu: tăng thu nhập.

I know, I know… Many will argue that they are not sales people, and they feel they would look desperate or pushy. If you belong in this group, I am here to tell you that you are looking at it all wrong! Nail retail is not about selling. Nail retail is about supporting your clients, fulfilling their needs, and solving problems for them. Therefore, you are being the expert that they would expect you to be!

Think of the benefits of your products and how they can help the client. Do not list the features! Your clients do not care if the lotion you are using has 79 vitamins, sweat from an almost extinct frog, and blessings from a 130 year old nun. What they do care about is how this lotion is going to make their skin soft and smooth and glowy!

Stock your shelves with your favorite nail oil, cuticle treatment, nail strengthener, hand lotions, and foot creams. Make sure to also have nail files available, as well as your special moisturizing remover, and of course nail polishes. So talk to your clients. Educate them. Then find their “pain points” and give them solutions with nail retail. And watch your business grow as your clients rave about you!
