Definition (plain English):
Endocrine disorders are conditions that affect the glands producing hormones, such as the thyroid, adrenal, or pituitary glands.

Examples:

  • Thyroid disease → onycholysis (lifting nails), brittle nails
  • Diabetes → slow healing, increased risk of infections
  • Cushing’s syndrome → fragile skin and nails

How it relates to nails:
Hormonal imbalances can affect blood supply, nail growth speed, and keratin quality.

Confusable with:
Fungal infections, psoriasis, or trauma, which may mimic endocrine-related nail changes.
