Definition (plain English):
Long-term or repeated injury to the nails, often from everyday habits, footwear, or manual work.

Examples:

  • Tight shoes pressing on toenails
  • Sports like running or football
  • Repetitive use of tools or instruments with fingers

How it relates to nails:
Causes thickened nails (onychogryphosis), onycholysis (lifting), pincer nails, ridges, or bruising under the nail (subungual haematoma).

Confusable with:
Fungal infection, psoriasis, or age-related thickening.
