High Fever

Term: High fever

Definition (plain English):
A high fever means body temperature rising significantly above normal, usually as a response to infection or severe illness.

Examples:

  • Influenza
  • Pneumonia
  • Severe viral or bacterial illness

How it relates to nails:
Just like fever generally, a high fever can temporarily stop nail growth. When growth resumes, Beau’s lines (horizontal grooves) may appear weeks later.

Confusable with:
Nail growth lines from chemotherapy, trauma, or other systemic illnesses.
