Definition (plain English):
A group of chronic conditions that cause inflammation in the digestive tract.
Examples:
- Crohn’s disease
- Ulcerative colitis
How it relates to nails:
IBD can be associated with clubbing (curved nails and enlarged fingertips) and may also contribute to brittle nails due to poor nutrient absorption.
Confusable with:
Clubbing caused by lung disease, heart disease, or liver disease.
