Definition (plain English):
Chronic skin diseases that also affect the nails.
Examples:
- Psoriasis
- Eczema / dermatitis
- Lichen planus
How it relates to nails:
Skin diseases often extend to the nail matrix and bed, causing pitting, ridging, splitting, thickening, or onycholysis (lifting).
Confusable with:
Fungal infections or nail trauma, which can produce very similar changes.
