A ‘Russian manicure’ is a term used to describe a technique that uses an electric file to remove the cuticle from the nail plate and also remove the frame of living skin at the base of the nail.

It is invasive and harmful and opens up the delicate structures under the skin and nail to invasion by pathogens and therefore infection.

Some nail professionals, globally, (and not necessarily in Russia) like the appearance this gives. But, it is an extreme form of manicure, the result is not natural in appearance and is potentially dangerous to the on-going health of the whole nail unit. It is invasive and destroys living skin for a specific aesthetic look
