Hyperhidrosis

What is Hyperhidrosis and what causes it?

Hyperhidrosis is also known as ‘excessive sweating’. The condition is caused by hyperfunction of the sweat glands. It can appear in any area of the skin, but most commonly on the soles of the feet and in hands.

The exact cause of Hyperhidrosis is still unknown, but scientific research confirms the nervous system plays a major role in the development of the disease.

Nails are not usually involved. The sweat glands of the skin begin to produce excessive amounts of sweat, which leads to uncomfortable conditions, stress, and skin diseases such as bacterial and fungal infections, especially on feet.

Who does it affect?

Anyone.

How can nail technicians help?

There are numerous effective methods to treat and control excessive sweating. From using regular antiperspirants to injections – sometimes even surgery.

It is vital nail technicians follow safe and hygienic practises and use quality nail and skin care products for manicures and pedicures at all times. This, in itself, can help control the condition by reducing the risk of fungal and bacterial diseases. Nail technicians can also recommend cosmetic products to help combat excessive sweating, including sprays, powders or antiperspirants and creams.
